Our Advice for College Freshmen 3.0
Are you a college freshman? Then this article’s for you! We asked our Dreamworldgirl staff what they wish they knew going into uni, and this is their best advice on how to have an amazing first year <3
Remember that your peers are going through this for the first time too! Freshman year is super exciting and fun, but also an extremely jarring transitional period for most. It’s super easy to look around and feel lonely. You may see friend groups forming super quickly or observe peers who already seem well adjusted. Please know, these folks are just as scared or lonely as you are. Putting yourself out there can be super hard, especially if you’re naturally shy, but everyone is just trying to find their crowd. You won’t find them if you don’t even search! - Z
Don’t be afraid to reach out to your TA or professors for help or accommodations. They are often more flexible and helpful than you might think. Good professors want you to do well in the course! - Marion
Nourish your free time! Take yourself out on solo dates, try new places and meet new friends <3 If you’re an artist of any kind, take the time to work on your craft outside of class too. Find hobbies, clubs and people that you genuinely enjoy, and college will feel so much more fulfilling! - Daphne
Always make sure that you’re building rest and reset time into your schedule! Stress and burnout is no joke. Take a few hours to put your work away. Play Minecraft. Do yoga. Go out. You will feel so much better! - Bella
Don’t be afraid to say yes to things! One opportunity can lead to another and you never know where you might end up. Give yourself the chance to have a range of experiences. You will learn things about yourself that you might not have before—your likes and dislikes, what your boundaries are, and how you want to move through the world. Be kind, be courteous, and treat others the way you’d want to be treated! - Zoe
There is no ideal university experience. It’s so easy to compare yourself or feel like you’re falling behind, but trust that you will find what’s right for you :) - Suet
