Girlhood isn’t just a phase you one day grow out of. it’s a collective, joyful practice that endures forever. It lives in the backstage silliness, the fashion crises, and the unbreakable bonds formed between women who just get it.

Live from Girl Noise, an NYC music festival made for and by girls, dwg caught up with artists Simone, Screenager, and Fesssi K. to chat about female friendship and the parts of being a girl they’ll hold onto forever.

SIMONE

Vika Brennick: What's something about being a girl you hope to never grow out of?

Simone: I love that. I think my female friendships are the most valuable thing in my life to me. So I hope that I never stop putting them first, valuing that and seeing them as a safety net of sorts. I feel it's so important for me to remember that, they ground me and I feel like it's a different kind of bond between women. It's very special.

VB: There's a book by Dolly Alderton.

Simone: Yes!

VB: And she talks about everything she knows about love…

Simone: I love that book.

VB: She has a quote that's everything I know about love I learned from my female friendships. And I really love that quote. So I feel like it plays into what you're saying.

Simone: I love that book… I just feel like being around women, there's a natural camaraderie and understanding of each other that I've never found anywhere else.

VB: What's the most girl thing you've done this week?

Simone: I bought a push up bra yesterday.

VB: Wait, that's so funny.

Simone: For the first time, [I’d] never bought one [before]. And my friend had to come with me because I had never done it and I didn't know what size I was. I felt like a middle schooler going to Victoria's Secret and getting measured.

SCREENAGER

VB: We lowkey go back a couple years.

Adri: Did you know that the photo you took of me was in the Rockwell?

VB: Yeah, of course! I lived in Boston and I’ve shot at the Rockwell 10 times.

Adri: There’s a photo of me at a random venue in Boston, like blown up. It's big! [...] I want that photo, because didn't they close?

VB: I literally was just there a couple weeks ago. They're still alive and well!

Adri: I love it. The photo lives on.

VB: What's something about being a girl you hope to never grow out of?

Adri: I don't know, maybe just making things pretty, making things girly. I feel like I tried to reject that a lot growing up because I was like“ I'm a tomboy, I just need to rock.” But now I like making things pink and girly. It just [feels] good to be girly. I also work with kids a lot, so I feel like just being silly.

VB: I like that! I like thinking about always embracing my childhood self. Always being silly a little bit. What's the most girl thing you've done this week?

Adri: I don't know. I do a lot of girl things. Probably some fashion meltdown. We've definitely had a lot of those recently. Fashion crises.

Fesssi K.

VB: What's something about being a girl that you hope to never grow out of?

fesssi k.: Not taking myself too seriously. Just having a lot of fun. Just being silly.

VB: Someone before you said literally the same thing. So I guess this is a common answer.

FK: I'm never not gonna be obsessed with stickers or charm bracelets. Or a sock and heel moment. Just little things that have literally always been around. I'm never going to grow out of them.

VB: Awesome. Love that!  What's the most girl thing you've done this week?

FK: I took like a 15 minute shower and it was great. Phenomenal! It was scalding hot. And yeah, I loved every part of it.

VB: A really long shower!

FK: Yeah, literally at the end of the day, just a long ass shower. A nice little face massage. I'm listening to a little e-book, having a good time.
