PLAYLIST: an ode to quinn and logan

CREATED BY DAPHNE BRYANT

Recently, I’ve found myself writing about romance with great fervor. The new adult book I’m currently working on is a romantic comedy set in Los Angeles; in order to understand my two leads better, I’ve used some of my favorite on-screen couples from childhood as references. We have Flora and Helia from Winx Club, of course, and Miley and Travis from Hannah Montana: The Movie, but I’d forgotten about Quinn and Logan.

Zoey 101 was technically before my time: I was two years old when it came out and by the time the show wrapped I was only just starting elementary school. Still, I’ve always been drawn to the bright 2000s fashion and music, dynamic cast of characters, and idyllic backdrop of Pacific Coast Academy, a fictional boarding school in Southern California.I can’t really remember shipping any of the characters all that much, but as I was scrolling on my TikTok FYP a (really, really good) Quinn and Logan edit came up.

Apparently, Quinn and Logan are a fan-favorite couple from the show and evolve from rivals to lovers in Season 4, but that’s not the only classic romance trope they embody. For example, Quinn and Logan are perfect examples of opposites attract: while Logan is characterized as a vain, popular boy, Quinn’s character is extremely quirky, and a bit of a geek. Most notably, they’re in a secret relationship, which begins in“ Quinn Misses the Mark” after kissing, and is later revealed publicly at prom.

I honestly find everything about Quinn and Logan’s relationship incredibly endearing. I like that they’re both embarrassed to be dating each other at first, so much so that they hide their relationship from their friend group and the rest of the school—it feels fresh, it feels different, and it honestly feels real. In high school, I know so many jocks that were attracted to girls that didn’t necessarily fit in their clique or match their track record, but they didn’t make a move until after graduation for fear of what their friends might think. Ultimately, Logan confesses his love for Quinn in a really big way, which makes up for all of the lying and sneaking around (LOL). I also love an enemies to lovers moment (XO, Kitty is one of my favorite examples of this). The banter is just so entertaining, always, and when that back and forth turns into affectionate teasing, a sort of satisfaction flows through the viewer. And finally, the allure of the playboy falling for the weirdest girl around (She’s All That is another great example for this particular trope) is not lost on me. I love when people you normally wouldn’t think to pair together end up being the best couple of all.

As I was doing research on Quinn and Logan, I discovered that there was actually a reboot for the show, called Zoey 102. The sequel film premiered on Paramount+ a few years back, and in it Quinn and Logan officially get married and are considered endgame. There are some pretty cute scenes and callbacks in the film, so I definitely recommend watching if you were a Quogan shipper to the very end. And, if you’re craving just a little more indulgence, you can check out the playlist I made below, inspired by Quinn and Logan’s love story!
