meet abby moskow, a dreamy R&B/pop musician whose mission is to make music that feels like magic. With every release Moskow creates an immersive and introspective experience for listeners, which is most certainly the case for her latest single, “spell”! read dwg’s interview with abby below <3
Q1: HIII! It’s so awesome to be interviewing you, I love your music so much! How have you been since we met up and chatted last month? What’s new in your world?
A: Oh my goodness hi! I’m so excited, thank you for chatting with me. There’s definitely been a lot going on since we last talked, but it’s [the] kind of busy that’s really rewarding. The day after I saw you for my performance at the Commonplace Zine Fest, I had the video shoot for my new song“ spell”, so that was huge for me and a lot of this past month has consisted of working on getting the video done with the team!
Q2: So cool! Congratulations on the release of your music video, which as you said, was for“ spell”! If spell, as a track, had a big three, what would be its sun, moon and rising?
A: Thank you! I love this question. The song’s lyricism aims to capture a playful back and forth between two people in love, and it explores the concept of lovingly pushing each other’s buttons. With that in mind, I can’t help but feel like the song is all fire across the board...I’m a Sagittarius sun and Aries moon & rising. This lineup feels pretty fitting for“ spell”, some strong-will and stubbornness coming from Sagittarius, and some impulsive, emotional decision-making coming from the Aries placements.
Q3: How did you go about the creative direction for“ spell’s” visuals? What did you want to capture?
A: I wanted to portray [the before mentioned concept] visually, through a game night. I thought it would be super cute for us to be taking turns winning/losing, one of us playfully pouting while the other boasts about winning, but still in a“ you can’t stay mad at me” kind of way. Each moment like that in the video is followed by a“ make-up” moment, shown through cuddling on the couch, holding hands, etc., There’s also a scene where we’re having a photoshoot with bubble-guns and it turns into a little bubble-gun fight, I love how [it] captures that playful energy as well!
Q4: Any other memorable moments from being on set, funny stories or special scenes?
A: During the bubble-gun photoshoot scene, we were shooting on a polaroid camera which was so cute and fit the vibe perfectly, but it was so cold that the camera was struggling to function/keep up...so we were trying to get video takes with quick flashes one after another, but I would push the button and nothing would happen. [It] was just a funny thing to navigate while trying to look cool and music-video-y. Also, our shoot was [on] the day that daylight savings started, so when we were shooting outside, we kept having to move our picnic blanket set-up to chase the light at like 3pm. It was an extra rude awakening.
Q5: The video feels really nostalgic, dreamy and cozy, perfect for the winter weather. What fashion trends have put a spell on you this December?
A: I’m really loving a cabbie hat and a long skirt over jeans this December. Also headphones as ear muffs. The spell we are casting is cunt.
Q6: I also love how unashamedly sapphic the MV is. Why is it important for you to tell queer stories?
A: Being queer is such a significant part of my identity as a human and artist, so I really wanted this music video to be an outlet for me to express that part of me to my audience. I hope it reaches people who celebrate queer love and see it in the magical, beautiful and vibrant light that we tried to capture [in] the video.
“Being queer is such a significant part of my identity as a human and artist.”
Q7: Finally, what are you most excited for in 2026? What are your aspirations and goals, both musically and personally?
A: I’m really excited to keep growing into the person and musician I believe I can be. I know that it will take a lot of work both internally and externally, but I feel ready to do that work. I’m looking forward to releasing music that [help] people to connect and heal, pushing doors open further and further, and just continuing to pour love into the community of creatives and supporters that has uplifted me so much this year. I can’t wait to see what’s coming our way. Thank you so much for having me!
