Pairing My Favorite Autumnal Scents With Beloved Fall Activities

To me, autumn scents run the gambit. There are so many lip-licking gourmands on the market, but a plethora of photorealistic, natural scents as well. Fall also carries an energy like no other, especially in New England. It’s extremely revered, a season that is anticipated all year long. It’s my favorite season, personally. I may be just another white bitch who loves a pumpkin latte, but I swear I’m different: I like a pumpkin scent too.

Here are some of my favorite fall scents paired with a handful of classic, autumnal activities:

Planning on a dimly lit dinner date? Jazz Club from Maison Margiela is both homely and“ that-girl.”

Notes: a shot of rum, a dash of sage, a lasting impression of tobacco leaf and vanilla.

Whether you’re sitting on the lap of your date or three whisky sours deep with friends, this is the perfect moody and sexy scent for a chilly night out. Even after bundling up in a fur coat, perhaps, or maybe a wool scarf, the scent will latch onto the skin of your neck longer than your memory of the evening will last.

I think it’s only necessary to wear Pumpkin Creme from Le Monde Gourmand on your trip to the local pumpkin patch.

Notes: a scoop of pumpkin puree and your spice drawer.

I’m big on a gourmand scent, especially autumnal ones. This one smells exactly like an Anthropologie candle, but instead of it being isolated to just a room, you can carry the scent with you all day long. If carving pumpkins isn’t your speed, then perhaps swinging by your local cafe for a pumpkin spice latte is!

Sticky Dates from Lush is the perfect scent enhancer for an all day long, bake-athon.

Notes: ooey, gooey caramel and soft, ripe medjool dates.

Here’s one more gourmand scent for this list, but this one feels like baking in nothing but an oversized sweater, underwear, and tall, thick socks. Maybe there’s someone behind you with their arms around your waist, barely lending a helping hand. Wear this scent while baking and I promise you that your dessert won’t be the only thing that smells good enough to eat.

Going for a walk and leaf peeping pairs well with Eidesis from Aesop.

Notes: warm cedar, soft spices, and a chill in the air.

One of the least oud-y of the fragrances produced by Aesop, Eidesis is a breath of fresh air. The cedar base and middle notes are perfect for enjoying a cool autumn day before soft breezes turn into harsh winter gusts. This is the quintessential leaf peeping scent. Spray it onto your scarf, flannel, or just your skin, and you’re good to go!

Bring some prep to your fall shopping sesh with Ralph Lauren’s Polo Red Parfum.

Notes: juicy blood orange, a sprig of lavender, a lot of musk.

Recommended by one of my friends, Rico says that this is his signature fall scent. For me, it brings up memories of going to the local Polo outlet with my mom. I would sneak downstairs to the men’s section to smell the cologne straight from the bottle. Polo will never not scream preppy to me, but it’s nostalgic for that same reason.

Spritz on some sexy Rouge Chaotique from Byredo for Halloween.

Notes: stone fruit squeezed in the palm of a hand, patchouli, and sweet praline.

Sickly sweet and sexy, the perfume itself is a deep crimson color. This pairs well with lingerie underneath a cape from Party City and fake fangs that you take off halfway through the night. This scent is so seductive, no matter what you get up to on Halloween, all of your mischief will most certainly be overlooked.
